Frequently Asked Questions
What hardware do I need?
An OpenPort 2.0 or Tactrix cable ($170-200) to connect to your vehicle’s OBD-II port. PulseWidth supports both cables for ROM flashing and data logging. You also need a Windows 10 or later laptop.
Is Pro really a one-time purchase?
Pro is a one-time $249 payment tied to a single VIN. No renewals, no subscriptions. If you change vehicles, you can purchase a new Pro license for the new VIN.
How does the vehicle limit work?
Pro licenses are tied to a single VIN. Each vehicle needs its own Pro license. Tuner tier covers unlimited vehicles. Free tier has no vehicle limit since it doesn’t require VIN registration.
Can I transfer my license if I sell my car?
Pro licenses are tied to a VIN. If you sell your car, you would purchase a new Pro license for your next vehicle. For Tuner licenses, vehicles are unlimited so there is nothing to transfer.
What about the 2022+ WRX?
2022+ WRX (VB chassis, FA24DIT) support is in active development. We are working on full ROM editing and flashing support. Sign up for a free account to be notified when it launches.
Is PulseWidth safe for my ECU?
PulseWidth includes FlashSafetyValidator which blocks unsafe operations before they reach your ECU: wrong ROM size, wrong processor family, blank ROMs, and bad checksums are all caught. Every flash includes automatic backup, checksum correction, and write verification. Recovery mode is available if something goes wrong.
How does PulseWidth compare to COBB or EcuTek?
PulseWidth offers a free tier with full ROM editing and flashing, plus Pro features like auto-tune and live tuning at a fraction of the cost of COBB Accessport ($770+) or EcuTek ($700-1,100+). It also supports 2022+ VB WRX, 548+ definitions, and ECU recovery.
Not sure which tier is right?
Start with Free. You can always upgrade later, and nothing you have done is lost. Your ROMs, logs, and settings carry over to Pro.
